The agent of Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has sparked transfer speculation by contacting German top-flight side Bayern Munich, the club of Kim Min-jae.
“Bayern Munich have taken the first step towards signing Bruno Fernandes from Manchester United,” Portuguese media outlet Ozogo reported on Feb. 2 (KST).
Munich announced on the club’s official website that “The club has appointed Vincent Kompany as its new head coach. Kompany has signed a contract with the club until June 30, 2027,” the club announced on its official website.
After deciding to part ways with Thomas Tuchel at the end of the 2023-24 season, Munich appointed the former Burnley boss as his successor. Munich reportedly paid Burnley €10-12 million in compensation to bring Kompany to the club.
The 38-year-old manager has been in charge of Burnley since 2022, having previously managed Belgian league giants Anderlecht. In 2022-23, he led Burnley to promotion to the Premier League, but the high barriers of the Premier League proved to be too much for the Clarets, who finished 18th and were relegated again just one season later.
Kompany’s tactical prowess was especially evident when he transplanted his driven style of soccer to Burnley in the second tier, which is why he has recently been touted as a promising young manager.
With Kompany at the helm for the 2024-25 season, the Bavarians have completed their search for a new manager and are now looking to add to their squad in the summer transfer window.
With interest focused on who Kompany will bring to the club, Portuguese media outlets have claimed that Munich are in talks with the agent of United captain Fernandes.
“According to the information we have gathered, Munich are already in talks with Fernandes’ agent Miguel Pigne,” the outlet explained, adding, “We know that in addition to Munich, Barcelona have also expressed a keen interest in Fernandes, which could open the door to negotiations soon.”
Fernandes, a member of the Portugal national 안전놀이터 soccer team, is a world-class midfielder who is currently considered one of the Premier League’s best playmakers.
After scoring 63 goals and providing 50 assists in 137 appearances for Sporting CP in Portugal, Fernandes began to attract interest from Europe’s biggest clubs, but it was his move to United in January 2020 that catapulted him into the Premier League.
Tottenham Hotspur, who are captained by Son Heung-min, made a move for Fernandes in the summer of 2019 before United, but the deal fell through after the clubs failed to reach an agreement.
“In the summer of 2019, I knew that the Premier League was interested in me, but Tottenham was the only club that made a concrete offer,” Fernandez said, “It feels strange now, but at the time I was excited to receive the offer from Tottenham. “It’s strange now, but at the time I was excited to receive the offer from Tottenham because one of my life goals was to play in the Premier League,” he said.
“But the two clubs couldn’t find an agreement and the deal fell through. I had mixed feelings. I was happy to play for Sporting, but it wasn’t my destiny,” he added.
In January 2020, six months after the Spurs move fell through, United came calling. “I told my agent not to talk about the transfer until I was 100%,” he says, “and he called me at night. I asked him, ‘Tottenham?’ And he said, ‘United,’” he says.
Fernandez immediately asked his agent, “Are you kidding me?” The agent’s response was different. “It’s true. Man Utd want him, now it’s your turn to decide.”
“When I was told I could go to Man United, I didn’t even reply (to my agent). “My wife ran to me and said, ‘Why are you crying,’ and I said, ‘I don’t know. I think it’s happiness,’” he said.
Since his move to United, Fernandes has become one of the Premier League’s top midfielders, scoring 79 goals and providing 66 assists in 233 appearances. His 에볼루션 바카라사이트 stellar performances earned him a new contract through 2022, which increased his weekly wage to £240,000 per week, and he was named club captain last summer.
This season, Fernandes has continued to be a mainstay in United’s midfield, scoring 15 goals and providing 13 assists in 48 appearances. He also tops the Premier League in chances created, having created 114 chances this season.
Meanwhile, Fernandes, a key player for United, is currently contemplating his future. His contract expires in June 2026 with an option for a one-year extension, meaning he has up to three years left on his deal, but he could opt to leave the club in certain circumstances.
“Mourinho wants to be clear that Fernandes’ direction at United is consistent with his ambitions to be at the center of a competitive and successful team in the new sporting landscape,” The Athletic reported last month.
“He will want to see evidence that the club can achieve these goals,” the source continued, “If Fernandes is not satisfied, or if an offer comes in that is financially prohibitive for the club, a move for Fernandes cannot be completely ruled out.”
“However, all parties feel that the Fernandes questions have been answered to their satisfaction and there is a strong expectation that he will not leave.”
European transfer market expert Fabrizio Romano reported on March 19 that “United and Fernandes have no intention of parting ways, and the player wants to stay at United and take the club back to where they belong.”
However, recent reports that Fernandez’s agent has been in contact with big European clubs, including Munich, have begun to fuel speculation that the player is unhappy with United’s ambitions and could push for a move this summer. This season, United lifted the FA Cup to lift the trophy, but had a poor year in the UEFA Champions League, where they were knocked out at the group stage, and in the Premier League, where they finished eighth.
Munich’s home stadium, the Allianz Arena, has been selected to host the UEFA Champions League final next June. They are determined to return to the top of Europe. Fernandez could be the first step.
