JANUARY TRAVEL RELEASE, CNY sees Macau GGR rising 233 pct m-o-m

Macau’s casino gross gaming revenue (GGR) grew 232.6% month-on-month in January, coinciding with the end of mainland China and Macau’s respective “zero coronavirus” policies, which saw a surge in tourist numbers, and the seven-day Chinese New Year holiday from Jan. 21-27.

The January GGR was $11.58 billion ($1.43 billion), according to the Game Inspection Coordination Bureau, a city regulator. In December 2022, the GGR was MOP 3.48 billion. 경마사이트프로

The January results marked the highest monthly performance since January 2020, before the pandemic alert began, up 82.5% year-on-year, compared with 6.34 billion MOPs in January 2022.

Macau had just over 451,000 visitors in the seven days counted by mainland China for the 2023 Chinese New Year holiday, about 37% of the total for the pre-Chinese New Year trading period in 2019.

In 2022, all but the first day of mainland China’s Lunar New Year holiday was in February, meaning the annual festival’s impact on Macau’s GGR could not be judged on a year-on-year basis. The 2022 holiday ran from January 31 to February 6.
