SEOUL, Jan. 29 (Yonhap) – Baseball team LG Twins, which is seeking to win the Korean Series for the first time in 29 years since 1994, has acquired “starting pitching resource” Choi Won-tae, 26.”We have executed a trade of outfielder Lee Ju-hyung, pitcher Kim Dong-gyu and the first-round pick in the 2024 rookie draft to Kiwoom Heroes for Choi Won-tae,” LG said on Monday.It’s a move for ‘Winnow’.LG’s only casinositezone weakness in the 2023 KBO is its homegrown starting pitching staff.To address that weakness, LG traded its first-round rookie pick for a two-hitting prospect.That’s why starting pitcher Choi Won-tae is so valuable.Choi went 6-4 with a 3.25 ERA this season.With no reliable homegrown starting pitchers other than Im Chan-kyu, he’s one of the best cards LG could acquire in a trade.The club described the trade as “a trade to achieve the ultimate goal of this season.” It’s a de facto “declaration of intent to challenge for the 2023 championship.
