Professional basketball organization Suwon KT has selected forward Moon Jung-hyun (a senior at Korea University) with the first overall pick in the 2023 Korean Basketball League Draft.
KT selected Korea University forward Moon Jung-hyun with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2023 KBL Domestic Rookie Draft held at 토토 Jamsil Student Gymnasium in Songpa-gu, Seoul at 3 p.m. on Nov. 21.
Moon, a 194.2-centimeter forward who is considered smart, was one of the big three in the draft along with Park Mubin (Hyundai Mobis) and Yoo Yoo-sang (LG).
“KT’s performance last season was not good, but this year, I cautiously think it’s the right time to win a championship. If I join them, they will be a little more of a winning team,” he said.
“I think they are all good friends. I’m grateful to KT for looking at me in a good light.”
He is also the only college-aged prospect to make the national team for the Hangzhou 2022 Asian Games. He will be honored with the No. 1 pick before departing for Hangzhou on March 23.
KT head coach Song Young-jin said, “He is a versatile player. He’s not in the national team for nothing. I thought he was superior in terms of skill and sense. I thought the team needed a player who could play multiple roles,” he said.
“I thought about it until lunch today, and I think he has the potential to be a powerhouse right away,” he said. “As you know, his shooting is a weakness, but Coach Kim Young-hwan will be training him from dawn. I hope you can see how it changes,” he added.
Upon learning of the hellish training ahead, Moon Jung-hyun said, “I will shoot without sleep,” adding, “I’m tired of being asked about my position. (I’ll go to the pros and prove it.”
He added, “I want to be a player who will find me a lot. I want to grow as a franchise player (in the league) because of my good capabilities,” he laughed.
