South Korean swimming sensation Hwang Sun-woo (20-Gangwon Provincial Office) started his first Asian Games with a bronze medal, and while he was disappointed with his performance, he vowed to improve in his remaining events.

Hwang became the second Korean to win a medal in the men’s 100-meter freestyle at an Asian Games after Park Tae-hwan.
This was Hwang’s first Asian Games.
After the race, Hwang met with the media in the joint press area and expressed both his joy at winning his first medal and his disappointment with his performance.
“I’m happy to have won a bronze medal in my first Asian Games,” he said, “but my 100-meter freestyle time leaves a lot to be desired. I need to focus more on the 800-meter freestyle relay and the 200-meter freestyle in the team events,” he said.

Chinese newcomer Wang Haoyu, 18, also finished the race in 48.02, 0.02 seconds faster than Huang.
“I could barely see Fan Zhan’er because she was so far away, and I could only see Wang Haoyu next to her,” said Huang. “Fan Zhan’er set an incredible time of 46 seconds. I think he is an amazing athlete and I will have to train harder to keep up with him.”
With the disappointment behind him, Hwang will now aim to win gold in the 800-meter freestyle relay on Friday and the 200-meter freestyle on Sunday.
