‘League home run leader’ Choi Jung-woo is back!

Choi starts at third base in Game 1, excluding Choi Joo-hwan and Choo Shin-soo.

SSG Landers has revealed its starting lineup for the first round of the semi-finals. Signature hitter Choi Jung-jeong returns from injury for the first game of the postseason.

SSG named Oh Tae-gon (first base), Park Sung-hwan (shortstop), Choi Jeong (third base), Guillermo Heredia (left field), Han Yoo-seom (designated hitter), Ha Jae-hoon (right field), Choi Ji-hoon (center field), Kim Sung-hyun (second base), and Kim Min-sik (catcher) for the first game of the 2023 Shinhan Bank SOL KBO League postseason semifinals against the NC Dinos at SSG Landers Field in Incheon on April 22.

The leadoff hitter, Choi, is batting 2-for-9 with 140 hits (471 at-bats), 29 home runs, 87 RBIs and a .936 OPS in 128 games this season, 먹튀검증 ranking second in the league in home runs. He was sidelined with a left hamstring micro-injury after the October 10 game against KIA, but returned in time for the semifinals.

Choi, who was second on the team and tied for sixth in the league in home runs, was left out of the starting lineup. In 134 games this season, Choi batted .426 (100-for-426) with 20 home runs, 63 RBIs, and a .742 OPS. SSG’s infield consisted of Oh Tae-gon at first base, Kim Sung-hyun at second base, Park Sung-sung at shortstop, and Choi Jeong-jeong at third base. Veteran Choo Shin-soo, who is batting .254 (97-for-382) with 12 home runs, 41 RBIs and a .777 OPS in 112 games this season, will also start off the bench.

SSG finished third in the league with 76 wins, three ties and 65 losses, earning them a spot in the semifinals. SSG’s most notable strength is undoubtedly their home runs. They led the team in home runs this season with 125. The gap between them and second-place KIA (101) was only 24. Only SSG, LG, and Hanwha have more than one 20-homer hitter this year.

SSG’s starting pitcher is Roenis Elias. Elias is 8-6 with a 3.70 ERA in 22 games (131⅓ innings) this season. He struggled against NC, going 1-0 with a 7.53 ERA in three games (14⅓ innings), but has been solid since August, going 2-1 with a 3.83 ERA in eight games (49⅓ innings).

NC has announced Shin Min-hyuk as its starting pitcher. Shin is 5-5 with a 3.98 ERA in 29 games (122 innings) this season. He struggled against SSG with a 6.57 ERA in four games (12⅓ innings), but had a good September and October, going 1-0 with a 3.48 ERA in eight games (31 innings).
