Conductor Chung Min, son of prolific Korean conductor and pianist Chung Myung-whun, who has been following in his father’s footsteps, will take the helm of a prestigious Italian orchestra in February.Chung Min will conduct a program featuring Johannes Brahms’s “Alto Rhapsody,” Op. 53 and “Gesang der Parzen” (Song of the Fates) Op. 89, along with Felix Mendelssohn’s Symphony No. 3 in A minor, Op. 56 at the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino Theater in Florence from Feb. 23 to 24.The younger Chung will collaborate with the Orchestra del casinositezone Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, which has been led by a number of the world’s top conductors, including Riccardo Muti, Zubin Mehta, Fabio Luisi and Daniele Gatti. Born in Germany in 1984, Chung Min is the son of Korea’s leading conductor, Chung Myung-whun. Acclaimed violinist Chung Kyung-wha and cellist Chung Myung-wha are his aunts.Coming from a family of musical talent, he studied violin and German literature at Seoul National University and made his conducting debut in 2007 with Aloysius Symphony Orchestra in Busan at the age of 23.Since then, he has conducted many operas and concerts in Korea and abroad. His symphonic engagements in Japan have seen him collaborate with the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra and the Kyushu Symphony Orchestra. In March 2013, he made his European debut by conducting “La traviata” in Lecce, Italy.Additionally, he holds the position of principal guest conductor with the Orchestra Haydn di Bolzano e Trento-Italia since 2020 and serves as the music director 온라인카지노 of the Gangneung Philharmonic Orchestra in Gangwon Province, Korea from 2022.
