MLB Detroit-Kansas City-Mets win first game of Wild Card Series

The “underdogs” Detroit Tigers, Kansas City Royals, and New York Mets had the last laugh in the first game of the best-of-three Major League Baseball (MLB) Wild Card Series (WC-3).

Detroit, the American League’s No. 6 seed, won Game 1 against the third-seeded Houston Astros 3-1 behind a dazzling performance from left-hander Tarik Skubal, who has won three pitching awards this year, at Minute Maid Park in Houston, Texas, on Sunday.

Scull went six innings, allowing just four scattered hits and a walk while striking out six and holding the Houston bats scoreless.

Detroit scored three runs on three consecutive hits with runners on second and third in the bottom of the second inning to secure the win.

Detroit is back in fall baseball for the first time in 10 years, while Houston is a perennial powerhouse that advanced to the league championship series for seven straight years until last year.

In the same league, the fifth-seeded Kansas City Royals defeated the fourth-seeded Baltimore Orioles 1-0 in Game 1 of the World Series at Oriole Park at Camden Yards in Baltimore, Maryland.

Royals superstar Bobby Witt Jr, who batted .332 with 32 home runs and 109 RBIs in the regular season, made his mark in the sixth inning with a two-run single to left field.

Royals left-hander Cole Reagans pitched six shutout innings, striking out eight to earn the win. Baltimore was held to 1-for-7 with runners in scoring position.

The sixth-seeded Mets defeated the third-seeded Milwaukee Brewers 8-4 in Game 1 of the National League World Series at American Family Field in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

The Mets used a scary two-out rally to knock off the defending Central Division champion Milwaukee.

After falling behind 2-0 in the second inning, Jesse Winker’s two-run triple tied the game and Starling Marte’s sacrifice fly scored the winning run, the Mets rallied from a 4-3 deficit to score five runs in the fifth inning, starting with Jose Iglesias’ tiebreaking RBI single and ending with J.D. Martinez’s two-run double.

Game 2 of the World Series, which will determine the winners of each league’s best-of-five division series, will be played at the same venue on Wednesday. 메이저사이트
