Jong-hyun Shim (Kevin Shim-21-photo), the second son of Jung-soo Shim (48), who hit 328 career home runs in South Korean professional baseball, will wear an Arizona uniform in Major League Baseball (MLB).
Arizona selected Jong-hyun Shim in the fifth round, 148th overall, on Day 2 of the MLB Draft on April 11. “Sim is the son of a famous player nicknamed ‘Hercules’ who hit more than 300 home runs in 15 years in the KBO,” said MLB.com, “and he also showed off his long ball power in college.”
At the Draft Combine, Jong-Hyun Shim impressed scouts early with his athleticism. He ranked first in hard hits (16), sweet spots (16), and long balls (4) over 400 feet (approximately 122 meters), all of which are defined as bat speeds over 153 miles per hour.
A first baseman and outfielder at the University of San Diego, 한국야동 he batted .295 with 25 home runs and 97 RBIs over the past two years.
