The heads of the PGA Tour and Saudi Arabia’s sovereign wealth fund (PIF), two of golf’s most polarizing figures, will square off in a pro-am tournament.
PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan and PIF Governor Yasir Al-Rumaiyan will be in the same group with professional players on the first day of the DP World Tour’s Alfred Dunhill Links Championship, which begins Wednesday, according to Golf Channel.
The tournament will be played across three courses in Scotland – St. Andrews Old Course, Carnoustie Golf Links and Kingsbarns Golf Links – and will feature a mix of professional and amateur players.
Monaghan will be paired with PGA Tour player Billy Horschel (USA) in the first round, while Lu Maiyan will be paired with Dean Vermeester (South Africa) of PIF-sponsored LIV Golf.
In the third round at St. Andrews Old Course, Monaghan will be paired with LIV Golf’s Louis Oosthuizen (South Africa) and Rumaiyan will be partnered with PGA Tour player Rory McIlroy (Northern Ireland).
The pairing of Monaghan and Rumaiyan is of interest to the golf world as the PGA Tour and LIV Golf are still in talks to merge.
The PGA Tour has been in merger talks since last year after accusing LIV Golf of siphoning off players for big bucks.
The two organizations have hinted at progress in the talks, saying they are having productive conversations, but have yet to show any concrete results.
There are 14 LIV Golf players competing in the Dunhill Links Championship, including Yon Rahm (Spain). 카지노사이트
