Hand over the club captain’s armband “Everyone must play like a captain”
Lee Kang-in, who made his debut at PSG, “Fills Messi’s vacancy” MVP selection
Heung-Min Son of the Korean national soccer team, “Captain,” will wear the captain’s armband for his team, Tottenham Hotspur,
in the English Professional Football Premier League (EPL).
Tottenham announced on its homepage on the 13th (Korean time) that “Son Heung-min has been
appointed as the club captain” and “will take over the armband from Hugo Lloris.”
Son Heung-min said through the club, “It’s an honor to be the captain of a big team like Tottenham.”
Son Heung-min is the second Korean player to wear the armband as captain of an EPL club after Park Ji-seong, technical director of Jeonbuk Hyundai.
Director Park served as captain during the days of Queens Park Rangers (QPR),
which is considered a ‘small market’ club.
Son Heung-min is the first to take the captaincy of a ‘big club’ club like Tottenham.
“Everyone knows Heung-Min Son is a world-class player,” said Tottenham coach Engie Postecoglu,
who entrusted Heung-Min Son with the captain’s armband.
“Choosing Heung-Min Son as captain was an ideal choice.”
He said, “He (appointed as captain) is not just famous. 바카라사이트
He is respected by everyone in the locker room,” he explained.
“In addition to the fact that he is the captain of the Korean national soccer team,
he also discussed his achievements at Tottenham.”
Son Heung-min, the ‘longest captain’ in the history of the Korean national soccer team (September 2018 to present),
is also the ‘highest level’ player in Tottenham, who has played since 2015.
Eric Dyer (29, England) and Ben Davis (30, Wales) are the only players who stayed in Tottenham longer than Son Heung-min.
Neither of them enjoyed the status as a ‘built-in starter’ like Son Heung-min.
From the 2015-2016 season, the captain’s armband of Tottenham has belonged to French goalkeeper Lloris,
but currently Lloris and Tottenham are likely to break up.
In the midst of this, the armband went back to Son Heung-min as the next captain Harry Kane left for Bayern Munich.
On the day Son Heung-min took over the captain’s armband, Lee Kang-in (22),
the ‘next-generation ace’ of Korean football, made his debut in the French professional football Ligue 1 (League 1) brilliantly.
Lee Kang-in started as a right striker and played 82 minutes in the Ligue 1 opening game of the 2023-2024 season
against Lorient held at the Parc des Princes in Paris that day.
Paris Saint-Germain’s (PSG) strikers could hardly open the goal
as the opposing team came up with extreme defensive tactics from the beginning.
In this situation, Lee Kang-in is the only one who stands out.
Although he failed to increase his offensive points,
he energized the team’s offense by running from the flanks to the center of the field.
This is the role that Lionel Messi (36, Argentina),
who was called ‘the best soccer player of this era’,
played at PSG until last season.
Looking at his performance on this day, Messi’s vacancy was not regrettable.
The League 1 Secretariat selects ‘The Player’, the MVP of the game,
through the homepage of each game, and gave this title to Lee Kang-in.
Ligue 1 praised Lee Kang-in, saying, “Lee Kang-in brilliantly played the position
occupied by the great Argentine player (Messi),” and “On another day, (PSG) might have won.”
Lee Kang-in’s performance is also revealed in numbers.
According to football record site Foot Mob, Lee Kang-in recorded the most ball touches (85)
among the PSG attackers that day.
The dribble tried four times and succeeded three times, and the long pass success rate was 57%.
